The largest monastic library anywhere in the world, build in Admont, Austria, was completed in 1776, during the Age of Enlightenment. Its architect, Josef Hueber, covered it with seven cupolas and provided 48 windows to ensure an adequate supply of light. The seven ceiling frescoes are the work of Bartholomeo Altomonte. On the shelves of the three room sections below are some 70,000 volumes.
